P7 wanted to reciprocate the awards they’ve received over the years and so they presented every member of staff with a certificate at this morning’s assembly.  We also celebrated a number of children who have achieved success with their keywords.  The most difficult part was saying goodbye to Mr Brown, Miss McLoughlin and our amazing P7s.  Goodbye and Good Luck to all of you!

Thank you for all your lovely messages, cards and gifts.  As always, I am touched by your generosity.  Have a happy, safe and restful summer.

P7 Leavers Assembly

28 Wednesday Jun 2017

It was an emotional morning as the school gathered with parents and friends to look back on the P7s’ time in Glenurquhart Primary School.  Everyone enjoyed the PowerPoint  which Mrs Laird had created, looking back on another busy year.  The P7 video was really special and moved quite a few pupils, parents and staff to tears!

The Parent Council presented each P7 with a special gift to equip them for GUHS: A Casio Scientific Calculator!  Many thanks to Lynn Milton for presenting the calculators on the PC’s behalf.

Huge congratulations to our citizenship cup winners this year, Ewan and Sarah.

I am very proud that it was so difficult for the pupils and staff to decide who to vote for.  All our P7s have contributed to our school in a wide variety of ways over the years.  I hope that they will make similarly positive contributions to Glen Urquhart High School during their high school careers.

Primary 4

P4-7 lost property has been laid out in the senior open area.  Please feel free to pop in in the morning to have a look.  We will give the children an opportunity  to look through it in the morning and then it will be bagged for the charity shop before lunchtime tomorrow.  None of the items are named.

Visit to Highland Council HQ!

Huge thanks to Council Leader Margaret Davidson and councillors Janet Campbell, Emma Knox, Jimmy Gray and George Cruickshank for explaining what it’s like to be a councillor to us.  It was really interesting to hear people from different political perspectives, including independent councillors who don’t represent a political party.  All the councillors agreed that the job requires good listening, careful judgement and the ability to prioritise.  All the councillors want the best for Highland, even although they might disagree about how to achieve that.

Thanks also to our debating opponents from Crown Primary School!  We enjoyed debating food waste and shark culls.  The time went so fast that not everyone in the audience got to make their points!  It was a great experience to debate in the chamber and be questioned by a panel of councillors.  They gave us really useful feedback.  The councillors were impressed by our research and preparation but we all have to learn to speak slowly and clearly.  We also need to practise maintaining really good eye contact throughout, and only glancing at our notes.
